Bid item # 1 – Entrance Road, Fort Humboldt State Historic Park Conformance Grinding and Surface Preparation Grind existing asphalt surface as identified in marked out areas to provide a smooth even transition to adjoining paved roads. Grindings shall be dispersed along road edges and covered with Class 2 aggregate shoulder backing. All existing paved surfaces and holes shall be thoroughly cleaned of loose debris and organic material prior to the application of tack emulsion and HMA. Tack emulsion shall be applied as described in Section 37 and Section 39 of the Caltrans Standard Specifications. HMA Surfacing Install minimum 0.2 ft. (compacted) HMA surfacing to all cleaned and prepared surfaces. HMA shall be installed on surfaces properly prepared in advance of the overlay, which may include: conformance grinding, hole filling, application of leveling course, power-sweeping/compressed air cleaning, and application of tack emulsion. Finished surfaces shall comply with smoothness standards described in Section 39 of the Caltrans Standard Specifications to the extent feasible. A profilograph is not required. Shoulder Backing Install shoulder backing to all raised edges following final HMA overlay. Shoulder backing shall be tapered to blend with existing ground. Shoulder backing is not required where pavement edge is directly above drainage ditches or other drainage structures.
