A contractor will be selected to sow and grow ponderosa pine seedlings. The seedlings will be planted on the 4-0 Unit of the Chief Joseph Wildlife Area. Seeds were gathered from the 4-0 unit approximately four (4) years ago and will be sown in nursery beds or in a greenhouse by the contractor. The legal descriptions of the seed collection sites was portions of Sections 25 and 36 of Township 7 North, Range 43 EWM and Sections 29,30, 31, and 32 of Township 17 North, Range 44 EWM. The seeds were gathered in the locations where the seedlings will be planted. There are elevation as well as environmental and climate conditions these seeds are acclimated to, and the seeds are not easily replaceable. With that unique heritage in mind, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) requires Bidders to have and use a location in Washington State to sow and grow the seeds in order to limit the distance the seeds and seedlings must travel.
