Wet Interior o Clean the interior tank surfaces of all silt, sediment and all loose surface contaminants prior to the start of coating renovation. Discharge or otherwise remove all remaining pooled water within the tank. o All interior surfaces including but not limited to the roof, shell, and floor should be completed abrasive blast cleaned to an SSPC-SP #10 Near-White Metal grade followed by the application of a full coat of TNEMEC Series 94-H2O Hydro-Zinc primer at a recommended DFT of 2.5 – 4.5 mils. Quality control must ensure the primer is applied before any surface rust develops. Remove all dust and blast products by high-pressure air, vacuum cleaning or brushing prior to the application of the first coat of paint. o The spent abrasive media shall be tested per TCLP-(8) Heavy Metals as mandated by the State. All spent grit and abrasive blast material shall be disposed of properly. o Once the interior surfaces have been abrasive blast cleaned and prime coated, all surfaces shall be re-inspected to identify any areas of metal loss that represent a 50% or greater reduction in corresponding plate thickness. The areas identified shall then be repaired by either fill welding to bring surfaces flush with the original plate surfaces and/or welding new ¼” thick steel plates over the affected surfaces. All patch plating should be of sufficient size to tie into sound adjoining surfaces and be sealed with a continuous fillet weld along the entire peripheral of the patch plate. o Apply TNEMEC Series 215 Surfacing Epoxy to all areas of striated metal loss and/or pitting representing greater than a 30% reduction in corresponding plate thickness that was not previously repaired by fill welding or installation of patch plates. Surfacer application should be sufficient to create a smooth paintable surface for finish coat application. o Stripe paint all welded/lap seams and pitted areas with a roller or brush using TNEMEC Series N140 Pota-Pox Plus thinned 10%. Recommended DFT of 2.0 – 4.0 mils to all referenced surfaces. o Apply ONE full finish coat of Tnemec Series FC22 Epoxoline, WH08-White or Series 22 Epoxoline, WH08-Off White Apply one full coat of TNEMEC Series FC22 at a recommended DFT of 25 to 35 mils to all interior surfaces that had been abrasive blast cleaned. Depending on the surface temperature, allow the coatings to cure as stated on the product data sheet. Provide adequate ventilation during curing. After the paint system has adequately cured, disinfect the interior using the AWWA C652, Method 2 spray method and seal for service. Exterior o Construct and maintain a Class 2A containment system along the exterior of the tank during all abrasive blast cleaning and painting. o All exterior surfaces shall be abrasive blast cleaned to a SSPC-SP No. 6 “Commercial” finish, removing all existing paint, rust, dirt, mill scale, and foreign matter by the recommended methods. o The spent abrasive media shall be tested per TCLP-(8) Heavy Metals as mandated by the State. All spent grit and abrasive blast material shall be disposed of properly. o After abrasive cleaning, all surfaces shall be cleaned of any dust residue or foreign debris. o Apply three full coats of a TNEMEC coating system to include primer, intermediate and finish coat. Color in kind unless otherwise specified by CITY.
