The purposes of the Georgia Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program is to: 1) provide educational resources and promote awareness toward pedestrian and bicycle safety so that students can walk and bike and roll to school safely in their communities; 2) facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects and activities that will improve safety in the vicinity of primary, middle, and high schools in Georgia; 3) enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk, roll, and bicycle to school safely; 4) make bicycling, walking, and rolling to school a safer and more appealing transportation choice; and 5) provide educational resources to schools so that students know how to walk and bike safely in their communities. The Consultant shall provide: A. School Safety Walks, which includes: 1) Working with the Georgia DOT to develop or refine a safety walk process based on the Road Safety Audit process. 2) Creating or revising a data-driven prioritization method to rank schools based on need for improving walking, rolling, and biking infrastructure within a set radius of schools, including elementary, middle, and high schools. 3) Conducting a minimum of five (5) safety walks, including at least one (1) safety walk per region annually. Reports and presentations are to be completed annually. 4) Working with the city and county government, Georgia DOT District and Area offices, school, community, and others as needed to complete safety walks. 5) Uploading safety walk Reports to the Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center website and provide electronic copies to Georgia DOT.
