Texas Tech University System seeks to commission a professional Artist to create a site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be placed at the Jones AT&T Football Stadium, near the new south end zone. Public art will be placed in this location as a beacon to this new part of the stadium. Safety is imperative; durable, low-maintenance materials are recommended to withstand West Texas’ intense weather conditions. Ideal submissions will create an art piece that showcases the athlete specifically pertaining to football and conveys a sense of movement. Artists should think of a figure or body in motion. This art installation will not only serve as a beacon in the area but will also give passersby an idea of the energy and excitement of Texas Tech football. The south end zone has created a monumental front door for Texas Tech football. Three potential options for the art location are indicated in the photo attachments. TTU is open to a stand-alone sculpture on the south side (location 1), a large-scale mural (location 2), a stand-alone sculpture on the east side (location 3), or multiple locations if the budget allows. Submitting artists should consider lighting and other elements that will draw attention to the sculpture at various times throughout the day. They may also want to consider finding ways to make the piece interactive. Water features are highly discouraged.
