1) Represent the City in the prosecution of all criminal local misdemeanor violations, including civil traffic infractions authorized under the Motor Vehicle Code, and zoning ordinance violations, as required. 2) Review local ordinance violation cases filed by the South Haven Police Department: a) Make charging decisions. b) Advise victims regarding their rights and responsibilities. c) Communicate with witnesses. 3) Prepare local ordinance violation cases for prosecution, including, but not limited to: a) Create and maintain case files. b) Complete legal research. c) Have knowledge of local ordinances, including case law changes and statutory changes. d) Prepare and present legal memorandums and other documents for court cases and trials. e) Process discovery and records disclosure requests. f) Prepare subpoenas and other related documents in a timely manner. g) Lead victims/witnesses through the court process. h) Provide jury instructions. i) Handle enforcement issues. j) Make case decisions.
