Bid Item #1 – Masonry Repair All exterior mortar joints shall be carefully inspected and those found to have voids, cracks or openings greater than 1/32nd inch in width or those found to be eroded more than ¼-inch in depth, shall be cut back to a depth of two times the joint width, but in no case deeper than 1”, and shall then be cleaned of all loose and foreign debris with air and/or water pressure. Extreme care shall be taken to avoid damage to the limestone units. Damaged units shall be replaced by contractor at no additional cost to owner. Those defective mortar joints that have been cut and cleaned shall then be pointed (filled and tightly packed) with a non-staining, non-shrinking, Type “N” masonry pointing mortar, colored and tooled to match the adjacent beaded joints in appearance as closely as possible. Prior to installing the new mortar, the masonry surfaces shall be thoroughly wet, with no standing water (saturated surface dry). New mortar shall be colored and tooled to match the existing as closely as possible. Include 2000 linear feet of joint repair, cutting and pointing, and a unit price for adjustment of final quantities. The unit price for joint repair is ________ per linear foot. Replace 8 field stones that are severely cracked, or the face of the stone is completely deteriorated. These stones shall be removed and replaced with a new fieldstone, cut to the same size as the existing, and set in a fresh bed of type N masonry mortar. The unit price for the replacement of additional stone units is _________ per unit. Bid Item #2 – Entrance Wood and Door Replacement The existing wood timber framing and infills, at the east and west entrances, shall be replaced with similar construction materials, to preserve the historical significance of the structure. In addition, the existing doors shall be replaced with new metal doors and door frames. The new doors must include keyed locking hardware, and be painted, color to be selected by the owner. Bid Item #3 – Masonry Cleaning All exterior masonry shall be washed down with pressurized water, not to exceed 1,200 psi. Where necessary to remove stubborn stains, a chemical cleaning agent, approved for the specific application, shall be brushed onto the stained masonry, allowed to dwell the recommended dwell time, and then rinsed with pressurized water.
