Shelter House #3 is a WPA project building and is considered a historic structure. All masonry repair work shall be completed in accordance with guidelines outlined by the Department of Interior Preservation Briefs. All exterior mortar joints shall be carefully inspected and those found to have voids, cracks or openings greater than 1/32nd inch in width or those found to be eroded more than ¼-inch in depth, shall be cut back to a depth of two times the joint width, but in no case deeper than 1”, and shall then be cleaned of all loose and foreign debris with air and/or water pressure. Extreme care shall be taken to avoid damage to the limestone units. Damaged units shall be replaced by contractor at no additional cost to owner The existing wood timber framing and infills, at the east and west entrances, shall be replaced with similar construction materials, to preserve the historical significance of the structure. In addition, the existing doors shall be replaced with new metal doors and door frames. The new doors must include keyed locking hardware, and be painted, color to be selected by the owner.
