Little Squam Lake is a 408-acre waterbody located in the Squam Lakes Watershed in central New Hampshire. This project is implementing stormwater best management practices (BMPs) at the number one priority site identified in the Squam Watershed Management Plan (SMWP), the shoreline areas at the Ice House Creamery (formerly Squam Lakeside Farm). Stormwater from the completely built out housing development up gradient from the Ice House Creamery is transported off of dirt roads through pipes and swales to multiple location on the Ice House property. Adjacent to Little Squam Lake and US Route 3, this site is pivotal to preventing stormwater and pollutants from entering the lake. The location has a total watershed area of approximately 40 acres. During periods of rainfall or snowmelt, stormwater and its pollutants are carried directly to the Ice House Creamery parking area. From there, the runoff travels along US Route 3, funneling into storm drains and flowing unfiltered into Little Squam Lake. During severe storms, runoff may move forcefully enough to run directly across US Route 3, over the shoreline edge, and into the lake.
