Project Description The City is soliciting sealed Proposals to build a custom enclosure that is fabricated offsite and then shipped to the Abilene Zoo. Cage Material Specifications: 1. Panel-form construction: Cage layout built in individual panels to allow fabrication of entire job built off site, shipped to location at the zoo and bolted together at the zoo 2. Selected contractor must make on-site measurements prior to fabrication in order to ensure proper fit and construction 3. Framework: Wherever tubing is specified, it must be 1” square anodized aluminum tubing with .065” wall thickness, 12 serrations in the inside of each wall of the tubing to allow for a tight fit onto the corner connector and rounded outside edges 4. The clear anodized rating needs to be a minimum of 201R1 5. No welding of any joints is allowed 6. All joints made with corner connector system 7. Corners are plastic injected part made of Super-Tough (DuPont) nylon 8. These specific connectors provide a snug fit into the aluminum tubing (ESTO preferred) 9. Wire mesh must be welded wire in 12.5 gauge with 1”x 1” openings, galvanized after welded 10. All wire mesh must be cut to size, flattened and have edges ground smooth 11. The wire mesh must be mounted to the aluminum tubing frame with #8 x ¾” stainless steel hex washer head Tek screws 12. Stainless steel wire lock fasteners must be used to secure the wire mesh in place a minimum of 6” - 8” apart. 13. Washers must not be used to mount wire mesh to panels 14. All panels should have stabilizing cross bars installed at the height of 36” and also 72” prior to the 96” top bar 15. All door hardware is stainless steel, including 2” flush hinges with integral springs auto closure 16. All latching safety hasps are stainless steel with ¼” openings to accommodate a padlock shank 17. Door frames and associated doors are to measure 32” wide x 6’ tall 18. Door cross bars are to be installed interior to the door frame at the midpoint of 36” 19. Guillotine doors are to be configured on a dual Teflon rail system with a 12 lb stainless steel door plate 20. All hardware systems are to be encased in galvanized conduit with encased corner pulleys 21. All cable is to be of stainless steel construction and capable of resisting shear from guillotine door usage 22. Each holding unit must have a panel ceiling consistent with these design parameters 23. Gaps must not exceed ½” in any part of the animal enclosures or aisles, including but not limited to spaces around doors, connections to buildings and concrete footings, and flashing around roof support beams 24. Caging manufacturer with a minimum of 10 years of zoo animal caging construction experience is desirable 25. A project manager, with a minimum of 10 years of zoo animal caging construction experience is desirable, shall be on site at all times during installation and all units must be installed by qualified staff employee by the caging manufacturer
