The Peik Gymnasium Building has recently been vacated and is preparing for hazardous material abatement by the University this spring. The abatement is scheduled to be complete prior to start of the demolition, which can occur on or around July 1, 2025. The building address is 157 Pillsbury Drive SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 and is situated on a lot that is located between the Historic Knoll to the South, University Avenue to the East, and is buttressed by a retaining wall immediately adjacent to the Dinkytown Greenway to the North. The position of the building, along the buttressed retaining wall, will require sensitive coordination of demolition activity regarding the deep foundations and loading capacities of the existing retaining wall. Contractor will be responsible for generating a construction staging plan, demolition procedure, and haul route that can be vetted with the University. The Contractor will be responsible for coordinating the final University utility disconnects along with the associated below-grade work for the campus steam tunnel connection. Disconnecting of the tunnel from Peik will require patching / select waterproofing of the tunnel.
