1.1 SCOPE A. Contractor shall be responsible for accuracy of layout. Excavations shall be carried to a depth necessary to construct all walls, footings, foundations, floors, etc., indicated on the drawings. Width of excavation shall be sufficient to permit erection of forms and construction of masonry. Bottom of footing excavation shall be level, clean, and clear of loose materials. B. The Contractor shall protect all existing work including power lines, trees, shrubs, roadways, underground utilities and drainage systems, adjoining property, etc., liable to damage under this contract. All necessary repairs shall be made at the expense of the Contractor. C. Reference Civil Drawings for additional information. (NOTE: Information on Civil Drawings shall take precedence over any information contained in this Specification). PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS A. FILL MATERIALS INSIDE FOUNDATION WALLS: Materials as approved by the Geotechnical Engineer, consistent with the soils report. PART 3- EXECUTION 3.1 SITE CLEARING A. Strip and remove existing vegetation, debris, standing water, all excessively wet and soft soil, old structural remnants, and other deleterious materials from the building areas. All exposed surfaces should be free of mounds and depressions which could prevent uniform compaction. Usable topsoil shall be stockpiled for finish grading. No fill shall be placed on any materials outlined in this section. B. Strip topsoil to depth required to prevent intermingling with underlying subsoil or other objectionable material. Cut heavy growths of grass from areas before stripping. Topsoil shall consist of sandy clay surficial soil found in depth of not less than 4". Topsoil shall be reasonably free of subsoil, clay lumps, stones and other objects over 2" in diameter, weeds, roots, and other objectionable material. C. Stockpile topsoil in storage piles in areas shown or where directed. Construct storage piles to freely drain surface water. Cover storage piles as required to prevent windblown dust. Dispose of unsuitable soils as specified for waste material, unless otherwise specified by Owner. Excess topsoil shall be removed from the site by the Contractor unless specifically unnoted otherwise on the Drawings or by the Owner
