Item 1: Meter Interface Units (MIUs) Meter Interface Units (MIUs) shall collect meter usage from an encoder meter register and transmit the meter reading and a unique ID number to the data collection device. They shall integrate the encoder register and transmit the meter reading and other information to Needham’s existing remote reading device. MIUs shall be compatible with Neptune and Sensus-protocol (UI-1203) absolute encoder registers. MIUs shall feature “auto detect” functionality to detect the type of encoder connected and shall not require reprogramming in the field. MIUs must be capable of being read by a walk-by handheld computer equipped with a RF receiver, a mobile system with an RF receiver mounted in a vehicle, and a fixed network data collection system.
