The PWSB groundwater wells are beyond their anticipated life expectancy, experience routine operational issues and require ongoing costly maintenance. As such, this project is to include a comprehensive evaluation and groundwater exploration study to determine recommended sites for replacing, supplementing, and/or enhancing PWSB’s existing water supply wells at the wellfields adjacent to both Robin Hollow Pond and Happy Hollow Pond. This project is also to include an evaluation for treatment techniques for known goundwater contaminants including PFAS, VOC’s, etc. present in the existing well field. It is intended to evaluate treatment alternatives to provide contaminant removal from the groundwater sources upstream of the existing water treatment plant intake. Options would include evaluation of benefits for treatment at individual well heads or alternatively treatment of a blended well supply at a central location prior to intake for the water treatment plant. Provide conceptual design alternatives for removal treatment system for consideration by PWSB. Upon confirmation, develop design drawings for selected treatment system. Provide final design and construction documents for groundwater wells, well pump stations, treatment facilities and related systems for permitting and public bidding and construction. The selected engineering consultant must provide all required permitting and testing requirements needed for approval from the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) replacement and/or enhancement to existing water supply wells and for design and construction of fiinal alternative treatment system(s).
