The stickball field dimensions will be 150 feet long by 120 feet wide which is 18,000 square feet of playing surface. The playing surface will be grass {rye and fescue} and will need to be maintained and watered. The playing field will also need lighting for evening games after dark as the temperature in the summer months makes it extremely difficult to play until later in the day and evening. The facility will require a sprinkler system added to water the playing surface. It will need a system that can cover and take care of 18,000 square feet of playing surface. In the summer and dry times, the system will need to water seven days a week when dry. A system that can differentiate the dry climate and recognize a rain situation would be best for this application. Without water, the traffic from games will kill the existing grass with little to no chance for recovery. The playing surface will be fertilized and overseeded as needed by staff to maintain lushness and growth. Lighting will be provided by a light system added to an existing light pole adjacent to stickball facility and softball field. Lighting will need to cover twenty thousand square feet for playing surface and fan seating. It would be best if the lighting system has an independent switch from softball facility. Switch could be added to light pole for independent use.ie outdoor basketball court here at Woody Hair Community Center. The need for an independent switch is so that the lights on the softball field won’t have to be turned on if the stickball facility is the only field in use. This will save on electricity bills and bulbs.
