The Contractor shall: 3.2.1.1 Excavate by hand where space, access, or existing utilities will not permit the use of machines. 3.2.1.2 Remove loose material and free water from bottom of excavations. 3.2.1.3 Keep all excavated materials an acceptable distance away from each open excavation. 3.2.2 Contractor may stockpile clean fill material suitable for re-use where directed by LES. 3.2.3 Excess and unsuitable fill material shall be hauled from site by the Contractor at no additional expense to LES. 3.3 Non-Metallic Conduit 3.3.1 The Contractor shall install all PVC and smoothwall conduits as shown on LES drawings. PVC sleeves are field cut. All conduits shall be capped on both ends. 3.3.2 All 1¼” smoothwall conduit shall have tracewire installed. 3.3.3 Splices shall be avoided to the extent practical in 1¼” smoothwall conduit. 3.3.4 All PVC conduits will be installed approximately 10’ out from the cable trench by others prior to this work. 3.3.5 Installation of all couplers, elbows, connections to foundations, etc. shall be included at no additional cost to LES. 3.3.6 Place fill and backfill materials in 8-inch maximum layers (uncompacted depth). Backfill shall be placed uniformly on all sides of the conduits. Frozen material shall not be used for backfill. 3.3.7 Compact fill and backfill material with approved equipment to a minimum of 95% of maximum density at -2% to +5% of optimum moisture content.
