The primary objectives of this engagement are to: • Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of HMC’s existing fundraising work that assess current performance and provides direction on future goals; • Assess and evaluate HMC’s current and ideal fundraising structure and function. Assess opportunities and challenges associated with Harborview Medical Center fundraisers being part of a larger fundraising infrastructure that also supports other entities within UW Medicine and the University of Washington, as well as structural opportunities and challenges associated with Harborview Medical Center being owned by King County; • Benchmark HMC’s current fundraising practices and outcomes against industry best practices at comparable institutions, including leading academic medical centers. • Assess the effectiveness of current resources and any barriers thereto, including staffing, infrastructure, technology, and structural or policy issues; • Assess existing fundraising events and strategies and identify opportunities to increase philanthropic revenue and enhance operational efficiency; and • Provide clear and actionable recommendations to maximize HMC’s fundraising potential to ensure long-term sustainability. The Consultant will execute the following tasks: Task 1: Project Initiation and Planning • Meet with project sponsors to align on objectives, expectations, and deliverables; • Review relevant background materials, such as organizational structure, current fundraising data, strategic plan, long range financial plan, and campus transformation plan to ensure recommendations are aligned with Harborview’s objectives; and • Develop a detailed project plan and timeline. Task 2: Program Assessment • Analyze HMC’s current fundraising program, including: ▪ Fundraising strategies and campaigns; ▪ Donor engagement and stewardship practices; ▪ Gift acceptance policies and procedures; ▪ Use of fundraising tools, technology, and data systems; and ▪ Staffing levels, roles, and team structure. • Conduct interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders, including staff, leadership, and donors.
