Ocean Frontiers Building (OFB) The new OFB is a new roughly 44,500 GSF research laboratory for the Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO). Key Program components are: • 18 Primary and 18 Secondary research laboratories, including o Computational research labs, w/ a sink and provisions for a future fume hood Flexible research labs, w/ 1 fume hood Hood Intensive research labs, w 2 fume hoods Trace Metals Cleanrooms, w/ exhausted laminar flow hoods Organics Cleanroom, w/ exhausted laminar flow hoods Multiple support laboratories of different configurations o Shared Laboratories, including Mass Spec labs w/ high heat loads Gamma spectrometer labs Chemical waste storage room o Faculty and Staff Offices, including: Private Offices Shared Offices Workstations for graduate students Conference rooms Break spaces (w/ kitchenettes) Collaboration Spaces • The construction budget in 2024 dollars for this building is approximately $46.8mm Ocean Engineering Research Lab (OERC) The new OERC is a new roughly 33,000 GSF (base building) plus 2,655 GSF Alt #1 new research facility for the Department of Ocean Engineering composed of tank facilities and research labs. Key Program components are: • Wave tank: 100 meters long x 4 meters wide x 3.5 meters high o 5-ton bridge crane over the length of the wave tank • Acoustic Tank: 30ft x 30ft x 30ft deep o ½ ton Jib Crane • The inclusion of two existing tanks currently housed elsewhere on campus o Flume tank o Circulation flow channel *The inclusion of these alternate features expands the overall area of the base building by approx. 2,655 GSF • Research Labs • Faculty and staff offices • 50 seat classroom • Student break out lounge space • The construction budget in 2024 dollars for this building is approximately $42.2mm
