Maintenance Specifications: These quantities, frequencies and operations are to be considered minimum standards and do not limit the Contractor's responsibility to provide a quality finished product. Area # 1: Downtown Park Forest Area #1 consists of the public areas bordered by Western Ave. and North Orchard Dr. to the east and west; and Lakewood Blvd. and Indianwood Blvd. to the north and south. This includes all turf islands, parking lot entrances and all medians and parkways adjacent to public and Village properties along these streets. Also included are the properties at Forest and Indianwood (400 & 440 Forest Blvd.) and the vacant parking area along Main Street between Forest and the Dollar General (10 Main St). Excluded are all of the parkways on other commercial properties, the Chase Bank property and adjacent lot and parkways at Forest and Lakewood, and all residential properties These specifications for the downtown provide for a very high level of maintenance. At no time should the turf look in need of mowing. Each mowing operation will include complete cleanup of clippings from walks and paved areas. Grass clippings need not be collected from the turf as it is mowed unless the clippings are excessively long. • Walks, crosswalks curbs/gutters and paved areas shall be maintained free of weeds. Weeds in the asphalt area of parking lots may be controlled mechanically or chemically with approval of the Director of Recreation, Parks & Community Health or his representative. • Fertilizer and weed control applications in the turf will be at the discretion of the Director of Recreation, Parks & Community Health and not considered part of the regular maintenance. • The Director of Recreation, Parks & Community Health must approve all chemical weed control. Chemical applications must be applied by a Licensed Applicator or a Licensed Operator under proper supervision. • As necessary, trash and litter will be picked up immediately prior to each mowing. This work will be considered part of normal mowing operations. Litter that may have been cut up during mowing operations must be picked up from the turf and adjacent paved areas before the end of the workday. • Mow turf to 2 ¾ inches weekly, or as necessary. At no time shall mowing operations remove more then 1/3 of the grass blade; evidence of “scalping” is not acceptable. Mowing shall include complete cleanup of grass clippings from sidewalks and paved surfaces. Grass clippings need not be collected from the turf as it is mowed unless the clippings are excessively long. • Each mowing will include string trimming around all light/sign posts, curbs, gutters (note: gutters to include the bottom portion of the curb to the asphalt joint) and paved edges. • Edging of walks, curbs/gutters and planting beds will be done as needed to provide a neat and clean appearance. The edges of perennial and shrub beds shall be neatly maintained and edged.
