The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the bridge and increase public safety. The structure was built in 1983 and now requires work to maintain its structural integrity and update safety features. The bridge is currently load posted and the rehabilitation will help maintain the structural integrity for decades. The scope of work will consist of removal and replacement of the concrete deck. The deck is saturated throughout with surface spalls. The bridge was constructed with a flat 0% grade and open steel rail allowing the deck drainage to go over the edge. This design has resulted in extensive overhang deterioration. The two western steel plate girder members are in satisfactory condition and will be reused, but the composite concrete deck needs to be replaced. The east box girder span is also saturated, joints between adjacent beams are leaking, spalls, and delaminations are present. The box girders have a side mounted railing system. Due to the box girders poor condition and in order to provide an uniform barrier, the box girder span will be removed and replaced with new steel beams and a composite concrete deck. With the deck replacement, strip seal expansion joints will be replaced along with the beam ends being cleaned and painted. The expansion joint bearings will also be replaced.
