DNR has designated the Des Moines River as a state water trail in five counties, and the high res visual imagery collected from this project will not only help the project partners gain an excellent understanding of the resource and its assets, but it will also be used to gather information in order to assist with plan objectives. Moreover, this imagery will be available to the public as an ongoing tool that can provide river enthusiasts with a visual understanding of the resource, assistance with trip planning and for the development of virtual tours in the future. We are also adding the Boone River in Hamilton County and Lizard Creek in Webster County—both are state water trails and tributaries of the Des Moines River.
