Installation of concrete traffic islands, pavement markings, sign installation, variable thickness asphaltic concrete pavement, milling, variable thickness concrete base, 6” concrete base, concrete curb & gutter, 5” concrete walk, concrete removals, construction staking, manhole adjustments, sodding, gravel filling, CUC, etc.; 1. Work on this contract consists of constructing ADA compliant, concrete sidewalk corner ramps, pavement markings, sign installations, asphalt resurfacing and pinned on concrete traffic islands. Examples of the concrete traffic islands and a typical corner ramp design are included in the concrete documents. 2. The work on this contract is governed by the City of Milwaukee Street Construction Specifications, dated July 1, 1992. Any paving marking specification not covered in the 1992 Street Construction Specifications and/or not covered by an individual specification listed in this document, shall be governed by Section 646 of the State of Wisconsin Standard Specifications for Highway and Structure Construction, 2022 Edition. 3. The order of construction operations on this contract shall be as follows per location: a. ADA Ramp Reconstruction b. Mill and overlay asphalt paving c. Concrete pinned-on island construction d. Pavement Markings The contractor shall get approval in writing from the construction supervisor if the order of operations is to be changed. 4. All work on this contract shall be completed by August 1, 2025. 5. The work on this contract shall start on or after June 16, 2025. 6. Some delay may be experienced due to underground installations. Such delay, the result of third party operations, shall not change the requirements of this contract or give rise to claim for scheduling problems. 7. The City of Milwaukee reserves the right to add or reduce the number of traffic islands and /or ADA corner ramp replacements per the Commissioner of Public Works’ request. The unit bid prices will be used for any future location added in 2025 and no rise to claim will be given for any addition or reduction in the quantities. 8. Sidewalk replacement shall be scheduled so that the time between removal and replacement is minimized. Upon removal of the sidewalk, the contractor shall have no more than seven (7) working days to replace the sidewalk. Each day over seven (7) working days that sidewalk is removed but not replaced, liquidated damages will be assessed per location, per day of $250.00. For every ADA Ramp removed per intersection, the contractor shall provide a “Sidewalk Closed” sign ahead of every ADA Ramp. The cost for the “Sidewalk Closed” signs will be included in the bid price for “Barricading and Signing”. 9. There is both asphalt and concrete pavement on this contract. There are both covered and exposed flanges on this contract. In areas of exposed flange, the contractor shall mill to the flange.
