Mowing: 1. First Mowing: Cut all vegetation to a length of six (6”) inches or less. The first mowing shall begin within one week of the directive to commence work; issued by the Commissioner or his designee. The mowing shall be completed within (5) five weeks of this directive. a. All Mowing: Mowing shall be performed to the right-of-way limits, unless an obstacle prevents the mowing; e.g. guide rail, deep ditches, banks, steep slopes, etc. b. Ditch Sections: Mowing shall be performed to the front edge of the ditch until September 1st . After September 1st it shall be to the bottom of the ditch. c. Guide Rail Sections: Mowing will be required only on the road side of the guide rail. Mowing will not be required at the guide rail posts because of the vegetation control spraying. d. Right-of-Way Sections: Mowing outside of the right-of-way shall not be required. Right-of-way for this bid shall be considered to be 24¢9² from center line of road except at intersections. e. Private Vegetation: The contractor shall exercise caution and judgement in order not to cut vegetation specifically planted by property owners; e.g. rose gardens, etc. f. Mowing around obstacles; such as mailboxes, signs, utility poles, etc.: DO NOT swing around obstacles. Mow up to the obstacle, lift mower, pass by obstacle, lower mower and continue, making sure to mow within 6” of obstacle on the three (3) sides. (The three sides being the approach side (begin), the road side and the end side.) 2. Remowing (Second Mowing): When, in the course of the contract period, the Commissioner or his designee determines that a project, projects, or portion(s)* thereof require additional mowing, the contractor(s) shall have forty-eight (48) hours from notification to initiate mowing, and four weeks from notification to complete said additional mowing. Verbal notification, by the Commissioner or his designee, shall be considered sufficient notification. Contractor(s) who fail to complete additional mowing projects on time will be assessed liquidated damages consistent with the liquidated damages as set forth in this bid solicitation. *Remowing a portion or portions of any project may be requested and if requested, said remowing shall be required and shall be paid by the mile. a. Mowing order: The order in which the Towns are mowed shall be followed as closely as possible to the order of the previous mowing. b. All Mowing: Mowing shall be performed to the Right-of –Way limits, unless an obstacle prevents the mowing; e.g. guide rail, deep ditches, banks, steep slopes, etc. c. Ditch Section Mowing shall be performed to the bottom of the ditch after September 1st . 3. Remedial Mowing: Shall be defined as – mowing which is required of the contractor to correct deficiencies in work performed. a. Sufficiency of work shall be determined solely by Steuben County. b. The contractor shall not receive compensation for remedial mowing. c. Remedial mowing may be required of entire projects or portions thereof.
