The Town of Groton is seeking proposals from qualified contractors for the enhancement and renovation of trail sections within Copp Family Park, a 227-acre park in the northern section of Groton. The park contains a dog park, and 3+ miles of hiking trails which lead to two meadows and stone foundations from its previous use as a farm. Copp Family Park is one of the most heavily used in our park system, recording over 1,000 visitors during a week. Due to the even terrain, the existing trails support a range of users, including seniors, families with small children, wheelchair users, passive dog walkers, hikers, gravel and mountain bike riders, as well as adaptive cyclists and horseback riding. This project began in 2015 with survey, design, and permitting. The base bid area and Area # 1 (see map of project areas, attached) have since been completed. The long-range plan is to create a loop trail that could improve conditions for a broader range of users. The topography of most of the loop trail allows us to modify, widen, and smooth the existing surface creating a trail that can safely be used by those with mobility impairments, as well as for special events and community engagement.
