SPEAKER SYSTEM Speakers can be IP-based, or optionally traditional 4ohm/8ohm, 70V/100V. It must be possible to adjust the volume of each speaker. Traditional speakers shall be wired to networked amplifiers, which can be centralized, distributed, or embedded into other IP endpoints. IP endpoints will be wired directly to the PoE/PoE+ switch in the building’s equipment rooms. The District prefers ceiling speakers, with baffles flush-mounted against the ceiling whenever possible (e.g., where a drop ceiling or accessible hard ceiling exists). Where the building/facility conditions do not allow it, wall-mounted speakers will be acceptable. Wall-mounted speakers can be surface mounted in walls using metallic boxes with the grille parallel to the wall or slanted (tilted downward). Alternatively, box speakers can be installed facing downwards and secured to metal beams in areas with high open ceilings. All ceiling speakers must meet the criteria for plenum installation.
