Knowledgeable and experienced veterinary care is crucial for the health, well-being, and prosperity of the bison herd (11 cows and 2 bulls, varies depending on calving). The herd requires 3-4 veterinary checks annually, including a minimum of 2 scheduled check-ups (spring and fall), and emergency calls for injury or illness. Herd check-ups must include all USDA required vaccines, supplements, or otherwise required needs as put forth by the USDA inspector or primary bison caretaker. Services needed include routine worming, brucellosis vaccines for all female bison, ear tagging, Bovi-shield, fecal analysis, pregnancy checks, blackleg, virashield, multimin injections, drawing blood, nuplura PH, dectomax, scour bos 9, lab processing of any samples collected, and providing pour over/spray on fly treatment for purchase by park.
