Playground mulch shall meet or exceed the following specifications. Delivery Quantity Minimum 85 cubic yards per tractor-trailer load Last year estimated 2,250 cubic yards of mulch was ordered. (25 loads at 90 yards per load) Mulch ordered on an as needed basis with a minimum twenty-four (24) hours notice. Delivery expected within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of FCPS PO. Composition Mulch must be Certified Safety Playground Mulch with Certificate. Material must be hardwood chips consisting of North American hardwoods Ash, Beech, Birch, Hickory, Locust, Maple, Oak or Poplar. Woods to be debarked and free of soil, leaves, twig material and other contaminants which hasten decomposition with no chemical treatment or additives present. Recycled wood from pallets or waste wood MAY NOT BE USED due to possibility of contamination and the risk of poor surface stability Dimensions Hardwood chips shall be randomly sized, approximately ten (10) times longer than wide, and meet the graduation requirements ASTM O 136 Percent Passing Sieve SizePassing by Weight, % 3/4 inch 100 5/8 inch 95 No. 4 80 No. 10 42 No. 60 3 No. 200 0.5 Ninety-eight percent (98%) of hardwood chips dimensions shall not exceed 4.00 centimeters in length, 1.30 centimeters in width and 3.25 centimeters in depth Permeability Coefficient of permeability is to be greater than 0.6 cm/sec. ASTM D 2434 Moisture absorption of hardwood chips SHALL BE NO GREATER THAN one hundred fifty percent (150%) by weight A 10-12 oz. representative sample of the mulch shall be provided with the bid. Bid shall be rejected if sample does not meet bid specifications and inspection by FCPS Staff. The sample provided shall be equal of the product supplied under this contract.
