SCOPE OF WORK The purpose of these specifications is the completion of a contract to repair and or raise replace the existing timber (Merritt) guiderail along Canal Road. Contractor shall have all material on hand to repair what is needed if needed as well as the appropriate equipment to raise the guiderail. The contractor shall provide all of the permits, labor, materials, equipment, apparatus, tools, transportation and services necessary for, and incidental to, the proper installation or repair the Guiderail. This work will include removal and disposing off-site of existing steel backed timber guiderail. It shall also include repairing steel backed timber guiderail and resetting steel backed timber guiderail. It is the contractor’s responsibility to remove all vegetation and berms in the area of the replacement, repair, raising or installation of the guiderail. QUALITY CONTROL Contractor shall use workmen who are trained in installing steel backed timber guiderails. Contractor shall make every reasonable attempt to complete the project on schedule. Contractor shall guarantee all material to be as specified. All work is to be completed in a workmanlike manner according to standard practices. Any alteration or deviation from these specifications involving extra costs will be executed only upon written orders and will become an extra charge over and above the estimate. Contractor will be responsible for asphalt restoration and landscape restoration. Care must be taken when working in this area due to its scenic and historic significance. MATERIALS • W6x15x6’ Steel posts (weathering steel) • W6x15x8’ Steel posts (weathering steel) All steel posts, back-up rails, splice plates and channel rubrails which are to be used as “Weathering Steel”, shall meet the requirements of ASTM A588. The fabricator shall notify the manufacturer that it is “Weathering Steel” (structural steel for use in bare, unpainted applications) and that the steel shall not be marked with paint or steel die stamped, but identification shall be stenciled with permanent ink. The dimensions of each component shall conform to the plans and ASTM A6. All steel posts shall be galvanized after fabrication to meet the requirements of ASTM A123 and conform to the galvanizing limits and tolerances shown on the plans. A single ¾” diameter hole 25 may be drilled 2” from the top of each post, in the center of the web, to facilitate the galvanizing process on the bottom of all posts. • 6” x 12” Timber Rail – must match existing guiderail
