The Land Reutilization Authority of the City of St. Louis, Missouri (“LRA” or “Authority”) is seeking bids for General Contracting Services at 3137 Whittier St., otherwise referred to as the Chuck Berry House. The Chuck Berry House, a historically significant property listed on the registry within a historic preservation district, was built in 1910, but the American rock and roll musician and his wife, Thelmetta, occupied the site from 1950-1957, when Berry wrote and first performed his most notable songs, such as “Johnny B. Goode,” “Maybellene,” and “Too Much Monkey Business.” The house is located on a narrow lot and is closely built to other similar houses; the exterior is red brick except for a small concrete-block addition in the rear built by Berry in 1956. The house is vacant, but retains features and integrity dating to Berry's residence. However, the house is structurally compromised and in need of repair. LRA seeks assistance in stabilizing this structure for future redevelopment. This project will require a General Contractor licensed in the State of Missouri to ensure adherence to preservation standards and regulations. The Scope of Work consists of implementing the Proposed Stabilization Plan (Exhibit A) that outlines and details the 10 primary bid items. Respondent’s are encouraged to reference the structural condition survey (Exhibit D) as a supporting document. Additionally, the selected Respondent is asked to provide brush/ vegetation removal and disposal services in the backyard which is included in the Form of Bid (Exhibit B) as its own separate line item to be filled out as well.
