The Town of Yarmouth, through its Chief Procurement Officer, is requesting proposals from qualified professional firms for the design and fabrication of a monumental sculpture(s). This sculpture will enhance the landscape at Thacher Park, also known as the Yarmouth Port Playground. The goal is to create a monument that honors the commitment and sacrifices made for freedom by our Soldiers and Sailors who served in the American Revolutionary War. The selected Proposer will work with the Town and a designated committee to complete 100% of the designs, fabrication (including any engraving/etching/embellishment), and installation Plan. The Town requests an overall design for a large granite rock monument that incorporates the lettering of the last name, first name, and death year for 443 participants in the Revolutionary War (List of names attached). The monument may take the form of any shape and should include sufficient space to include any unique Revolutionary War-related designs by sculpting or engraving, with room for an additional 25-40 names legibly added as more individuals are identified through further research. The Proposer will identify the location (address) at which the monument will be fabricated. The Proposer will also provide a written installation plan that outlines the method of installation based on the conditions at the site and their understanding of the site topography, existing trees, plantings, infrastructure, and traffic patterns and provides for the protection of the public and adjacent site features. The selected Proposer(s) will be expected to complete the project scope in two phases. A contract for Phase 1 will be executed once a Proposer has been selected. A contract for Phase 2 will be executed subsequently to the completion of Phase 1 and subject to available funding and mutual agreement. Phase 1: Design of Monument and Cost Estimate for Fabrication and Delivery – Target Completion Date: April 1, 2025 During Phase 1, the Proposer will work collaboratively with Town Staff, the Yarmouth Historical Commission designees, and possibly a landscape architect (under a separate contract) to develop an initial project design concept that integrates the monument with the site. A number of designs may initially be considered. All designs should be in granite with etchings/engravings denoting the Yarmouth Revolutionary War participants by Last Name, First Name, and Year of Death. The size of the monument will need to be large enough to accomodate these specifications in a legible manner, with space for additional names.
