SALT SPREADERS It is in the intent of these specifications to describe a truck engine powered, hydraulically controlled all-purpose conveyor type hopper body spreader for salt, sand, chlorides, mixtures and chips. The Stainless Steel Material Spreader is to be used for sanding icy roads and highways. All parts and attachments not specifically mentioned but necessary to furnish complete equipment shall be included. The exact machine quoted on shall have been in successful use for ten or more years. Proto-type or unproven units will not be acceptable. Bids that do not fully comply with these minimum requirements will not be considered. Bidders must submit with their bid complete specifications on the unit they propose to furnish. The manufacturing and production of this unit shall be of the best commercial practices, and only materials of the finest quality are to be used. HOPPER The Hopper shall have a maximum level capacity of 14.8 cubic yards. The hopper dimensions shall not to exceed 15 feet in length, 80 inches wide and a height of 64 inches. The hopper shall be fully welded construction of 10-gauge type 304 stainless steel and have 45° side slopes. The hopper discharge shall have a 90° slope and the rear wall a slope of 23°. The hopper discharge end-wall shall be braced to prevent bowing over time. The hopper shall be substantially braced and gusseted and arranged for mounting directly into a dump truck. The hopper cross sills shall be a minimum of 5” formed channel with a minimum thickness of 7-gauge type 304 Stainless Steel and 39 ½” long. Hopper cross sills shall have 1” diameter holes punched at each end of the cross sill. Hopper side support gussets shall be formed and constructed of #10 gauge type 304 stainless steel and skip welded to the hopper sides and cross sills. A minimum of eight (8) hopper support gussets per side is required. The top edge of the hopper at front, rear and sides shall be formed to produce a strong, non-conforming reinforced edge. The top hopper edge will be formed to a “J” channel design with a 1 ¼” internal vertical bend and a 3 3/8” horizontal bend. Two (2) hopper channel supports shall be welded perpendicular to the driver side and passenger sides of the hopper, located on underside of the “J” channel and welded to both sides and equally spaced. Hopper channel supports shall be constructed of #10 gauge type 304 stainless steel with a 3” vertical height and 1 ¼” horizontal leg dimensions. The hopper shall be arranged for receiving hinged top screens and/or “builtin” hopper extensions. Four (4) corner lift eyes shall be welded 12” down from the top edge of the hopper, adjacent to the vertical side and welded inside and out. Lift eyes to be constructed of ¼” thick type 304 stainless steel x 4” tall, x 4” wide and 4” in depth. Only stainless steel hardware shall be used on the spreader and all assemblies. CONVEYOR Material shall be conveyed from hopper to distributor disc by means of a 24” wide conveyor. The conveyor system shall be of the chain bar-flight design, running longitudinally with the body and feeding material to the feed gate opening. Bar flights shall not be more than 4-1/2” on center and 3/8” x 1-1/2” in cross sections with an overall chain width of 21 ½”. Bar flights are to be welded top and bottom to the chain coil side links. Conveyor side links coil to be “Drives Incorporated” D667X (Made in the U.S.A.) Chain coils shall have a tensile strength rating of 21,000 pounds/strand. A 3/16” thick type 304 stainless steel wear plate, reinforced on the underside with eight (8) ¼” x 1’x1” type 304 stainless steel angles, welded and spaced for maximum support. The 3/16” thick type 304 stainless steel wear plate shall be welded on both sides to the hopper conveyor track at the front, center and rear of hopper. The wear plate shall be equipped with rear conveyor chain wiper and flexible conveyor seal at opposite ends. Formed, type 304 #12 gauge stainless steel aprons/shields shall be welded to protect the conveyor chain.
