Before replacing the grates or manhole covers, the rims or seats shall all be cleaned so that they fit properly in place. During the operation, care shall be taken by the Contractor not to damage grate, frame, cover, drainage structure, pipe or curbing. If damage is caused by the negligence of the Contractor, the damaged parts shall be satisfactorily repaired or replaced at his or her own expense. No cover shall be removed unless immediately followed by cleaning. No uncovered structures shall be left unattended at any time. Covers shall be replaced immediately after cleaning. For clam shell cleaning, basin cleaners shall be a minimum of 18” orange peel bucket type. Additional buckets of smaller size must be available for cleaning off-set structures. Hydraulic lift trucks should be used during basin cleaning operations so that the material can be decanted at the site. After material from several drainage structures along the same system is loaded into the truck, the truck should be elevated so any free-flowing liquid may drain back into the basin. Material must arrive at the disposal facility sufficiently dry to pass the Paint Filter Liquids Test (or no liquid drips from it when a handful is taken and squeezed)...
