Hydrant Maintenance a. Maintain one hundred percent (100%) each year of contract life. b. Maintenance tasks include but not limited to the following: Assessing the appearance and functional condition of each hydrant. Documenting the findings. Lubricating each hydrant including greasing the stem (if accessible) to ensure ease of operation. Replacing gaskets in the hydrant caps, as needed. Establishing a 3-foot clear zone radius around each hydrant, as needed, to maintain accessibility directly followed by the cleaning and painting of the hydrant. Performing ‘double hydrant’ flow tests and document results. The removal of dirt and loose corrosion from each fire hydrant should be in accordance with SSPCSP2, Hand Tool Cleaning (The Society for Protective Coatings-Surface Preparation Standard 2). Painting the hydrant in accordance with project specifications. Hydrants exhibiting critical structural or functional deficiencies will be addressed by issuing a work order for repair or replacement of the hydrant or the failed component(s) by others. c. Water Resources shall be notified of all hydrants that need to be raised/lowered to meet the standard for installation. If the need arises, such services will be contracted out separately. d. The repair or replacement of a fire hydrant is not required with this contract. If the need arises, such services will be contracted out separately.
