The City of Marion Public Works Department is requesting bids for the mowing of specified right of ways during the 2025, 2026, and 2027 mowing seasons. The duration of each of the three mowing seasons will be approximately twenty-six (26) weeks and is dependent upon the weather and growing conditions during each season. Specifically, the mowing seasons will begin and end as follows: 2. Specifications: 2.1. Mowing: The Contractor shall mow the grass in a manner that will promote the health of the grass and that will meet the appearance standards set by the City. A. The Contractor shall mow the grass in a manner that will not leave clippings on the cut grass or surrounding areas in excessive amounts. This may be Page 4 of 6 accomplished by using a mower with a bagger attachment or a mulching mower. For the purposes of this RFP and any subsequent contract, the term “excessive amounts” means any amount that is easily visible to the eye. If the Contractor uses a mulching mower, the Contractor shall ensure that all clippings are well mulched and not easily visible to the eye. Leaving accumulated clippings on streets, gutters, sidewalks, and/or other surrounding areas will not be accepted. 2.2. Edging: Each mowing event is to include the edging of all sidewalks, streets, curbs, parking areas, planting areas, mulch beds, and structures located on or bordering the area being mowed. A. Edging is to be performed with an approved edging machine specifically designed to provide clean, crisp edges. The Contractor shall ensure that edging of sidewalks and curb lines is performed in a manner that prohibits grass from encroaching upon the sidewalks and curb lines and provides a clean edge. 2.3. Trash and Debris: If trash and/or other debris exists that will compromise mowing, the Contractor shall bag and remove the trash and/or debris from the area prior to mowing. Under no circumstance shall the Contractor knowingly mow over trash or other debris unless a mower with a bagger attachment is being used to catch the trash and/or debris. Leaving cut up trash and/or debris on the mowed grass will not be accepted.
