Insulated pool covers, and storage reels shall meet these specifications. Price shall include all labor, supervision, equipment, tools, materials, shipping, freight, insurance, and all other items which are necessary to perform the work as specified. A. PE Fabric: The fabric shall consist of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) consisting of clear, UV resistant, woven tapes, protected on both sides with a 2 mil Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), UV stabilized Ciba-Geige’s UV inhibitor and chemically resistant coating. The fabric shall have an overall thickness of 8 mils and an overall weight of 4.95 ounces/square yard; ASTM D1919-75. The color shall be “Ampacet” blue and black with a tape count on the cover of 12x10 per square inch and a tape thickness of 1,100 denier. B. Foam: The foam shall be premium “Volara”® brand. Consist of white, closed cell, irradiated cross-linked, 1/8” thick with a density of 2 pounds per square foot with polyethylene and enhanced with Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) additive. C. Fabric: The fabric is composed of Ethylene Interpolymer Alloy (EIA) with polyester scrim fabric, type 8130 and a nominal weight of 30 oz/yd2 and a minimum 30 mils thickness. The color shall be carbon black for maximum UV resistance and a tensile strength of 550 lbs. minimum per ASTM D751 and a burst strength of 650 lbs minimum per ASTM D751. The fabric shall have an abrasion resistance of 0.050mg/1,000 cycles weight loss (ASTM D3389 H-18 wheel 1 kg load) and shall be puncture resistant to a minimum of 259 lbs. per ASTM D4833. D. Laminate Properties: 1. Tensile Strength (Grab Breaking Strength): 371 lbs. (ASTM D5034) 2. Tongue Tear Resistance: 87 lbs (ASTM D2261) 3. Mullen Burst Strength: 500 p.s.i. (ASTM D751) 4. Pull Strength: 1,260 p.s.i. 5. Seam Tear Resistance: 85 lbs 6. Insulating (K) Value: 0.25 BTU/(SqFt)(Hr)(oF/Inch) per ASTM D2326 7. Flammability: 0 speed rating per ASTM E84 8. Abrasion Resistance: 0.00466 grams/1,000 cycles per ASTM D3389 9. Laminate has a minimum 99% foam fabric adhesion and maximum 1-¼% overall shrinkage after fifteen (15) minute boil test. 10. Laminate is non-permeable due to closed cell foam, LDPE coating and flame lamination. 11. Service temperature range: -40o to +160o Fahrenheit. E. Cover Construction: Laminated materials are sewn together by using double needle, lockstitch machine with size 138 bonded, yarn dyed black, UV resistant, polyester thread. Encapsulated with four (4) layers of 12x10 woven PE fabrics, weighted vinyl straps material is sewn along the length of the cover. In order to reinforce the heavily stressed areas in the center at both ends of the cover, 12” to 18” wide, black, fabric is sewn laterally and parallel with the tensile pull direction. Corners are strengthened by folding (doubling) the fabric material. Each “pull-point” location is reinforced with six (6) layers of 12x10 woven PE fabric, non-corrosive stainless-steel grommets and ⅛” thick T-1 PVC load dispersing plate. Solid ¾” diameter white Ultra High Molecular Weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) dowel coupled with ¼” solid braided white polyester cord is securely tied to the “pull-point” of the cover for easy cover retrieval. The first and last sections of each cover are sewn twice to form a “Quadra-Seam,” where four lines of stitching are applied. The bottom material of the first and last sections consists of 12x12 woven PE fabric materials for increased strength. Ladder and rail cut-outs, hinges, and rounded corners are incorporated into the cover(s) (note: precautions are taken by rounding and reinforcing cut-out corners to prevent stress tears). ASTM approved safety-warning labels shall be securely attached to each completed pool cover. And in accordance with ASTM standards, safety/warning labels are positioned in such a way that they are visible from and around the pool deck.
