The University is soliciting proposals to engage a reputable and experienced supplier capable of delivering Regulated Medical Waste Disposal Services in strict adherence to the extensive environmental regulations. These regulations cover areas such as air and water quality, solid waste management, landfill deposition, and all relevant Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, particularly those concerning blood-borne pathogens. The services encompass the collection, transportation, off-loading, treatment, and final disposal (posttreatment) of waste in a legally and environmentally compliant landfill. The University currently has 12 Regulated Medical Waste ("RMW") pick up locations across campus. These locations are the gathering points for 60 buildings RMW. Some locations require daily pick-up. Others require pick up once, twice, or three times a week. No pick-ups on weekends or University holidays. Please reference the "Waste Service Locations" attachment found under the 'Attachments' tab. None of the pickup locations have semi access. University research related estimated annual waste: Sharps, gloves, gowns, bench paper, glass, plastic, animal bedding, etc. = 350,000 lbs Pharmaceutical Waste (non-RCRA tablets, vials and other dry pharmaceutical materials) = 5,000 lbs Small Animal Carcasses (< 50 lbs) = 40,000 lbs Large Animal Carcasses (50-300 lbs) = 15,000 lbs Paraffin wax blocks = 500 lbs Total estimated annual = 410,000 lbs
