The project consists of several upgrades to Water Treatment Plant No. 1 as described in the Water Treatment Plant No. 1 Engineering Study by Greeley & Hansen. Improvements include: Filtration Improvements Rehabilitate or replace Backwash Pump No. 1. Add actuated valve on secondary backwash water source piping. Rehabilitate or replace Blower No. 1. Modify piping to accept temporary blower in case of outage. Add monitoring equipment for improved triggering of backwash events (online filter effluent analyzers and level monitoring above filter media for headloss). Backwash Handling Improvements Add overflow piping for Backwash Holding Tank. Modify backwash pumping station to wet well, install larger pumps, add new discharge piping. Finished Water Handling Improvements Rehabilitate or replace High Service Pump No. 1. Finished Water Disinfection/Raw Water Oxidation Improvements Replace existing gaseous chlorine feed and storage systems with sodium hypochlorite feed and storage systems to serve as both the disinfection source and the iron and manganese oxidant. Location of feed and storage equipment to remain in same location as current gaseous chlorine with bulk storage either inside or outside.
