Playground Specifications I. Playground Equipment 1. Except where noted, the term playground shall include all components required for the successful installation of the playground including but not limited to equipment, specialized tools, instructions, etc. 2. The selected vendor shall supply a play structure that is sized so that its footprint (structure + required fall zone) is no less than 1,000 square feet. 3. Other than for purposes of creating a uniform shape where the PIP area marginally increases the area around the fall zone, the PIP should be confined to the size required for the safe use of the structure. Areas in excess of this will not count toward the minimum footprint of 1,000 square feet. 4. Play structure should be suitable for ages 2 – 12 years of age. 5. The proposed structure should be a complete system with everything needed to make it operational. 6. Play structure should include a combination of activities and features such as climbers, motion, slides, interactive panels, etc. 7. Play structure shall provide activities for users with disabilities. 8. A list of parts and activity features is to be included with the proposal. 9. The proposer is responsible for submitting shop drawings and structural calculations, sealed by a professional engineer registered in the State of Tennessee. 10. The supplied equipment must adhere to the following statements when installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines and these statements must appear on the engineered drawings: a. Constructed playground shall be completed with full compliance to the American with Disability Act Accessibility Standards. b. All standards related to public playground safety from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the American Society for Testing Materials. c. The playground manufacturer is also a member of the International Playground Equipment Manufacturer’s Association. Amenity Specifications I. Bench/Seating 1. All benches shall: a. Provide ADA companion seat demarcation at the end of the bench on front of seat and handicap seating area pavement marking adjacent to bench. b. Provide a bench with both a seat and back. c. Be designed to be in ground mounted. 2. Playground benches shall: a. Coordinate with the final design of the playground structure. b. Length of 6’ or designed to accommodate 3 individuals, whichever is greater. 3. Team benches shall: a. Be manufactured using aluminum or other metal material. b. Length measuring 21’. c. Have 2” square supports. II. Bike Rack shall: 1. Be designed to be in ground mounted. 2. Be of a design to coordinate with the final design of the playground structure. 3. Be sized to accommodate a minimum of three (3) bicycles, whether through a single rack which accommodates multiple bicycles or a combination of single and/or double racks. III. Water Fountain: 1. Shall have two dispensers with one side being ADA compliant. 2. Shall have a bottle refill station. 3. Shall have an access door for repair and maintenance that can be locked when not in use. 4. Will preferably have a hose bib connection behind a lockable plate, but this is not a requirement.
