Prepare a Village-wide Historic Preservation Plan (“HPP”) to identify goals, strategies, and action items to help preserve the Village’s irreplaceable historic resources and foster greater interest in and awareness of preservation. The HPP will be developed in conjunction with the Village’s Historic Preservation Commission (“HPC”), Village Board, and staff and involve substantial community engagement and input. The HPP shall accomplish the following primary objectives: 1) Develop a historic context for the community’s historic areas. Historic Context: A historic context statement and overview of the history of Wilmette and its historic resources should be developed that identifies the broad patterns of historic architecture and development of the community and historic property types, such as buildings, sites, structures, objects or districts, which may represent these patterns of development. 2) Conduct community engagement in support of accomplishing the HPP’s scope of work. Community Engagement: Chief among these objectives is the aspect of community engagement. The Village desires public engagement of both stakeholder groups such as residents, the Wilmette Historical Society, Wilmette Chamber of Commerce, Go Green Wilmette, as well as a larger base of the community including developers, realtors, and preservation advocates. Community engagement should focus on education of participants as well as input. All public input should be documented and incorporated into the plan.
