The mission of the DHS is to provide quality, efficient and effective services designed to help homeless individuals and families preserve or access permanent housing through Homeless Prevention (HP). Homeless Prevention is an intervention program designed to help individuals and families in a housing crisis such as financial setback, a landlord/tenant conflict, or a dispute between household members. HP activities are designed to prevent an individual or family from moving into an emergency shelter or to a public or private place not meant for human habitation. HP helps such persons regain stability in their current housing or other permanent housing through housing relocation and stabilization services, and financial assistance such as short-term rent payments.
