The project is located at the intersection of Avenue 52 and Jefferson Street, where an existing roundabout serves as a critical hub for traffic movement in the area. While functional, the current configuration has identified opportunities for safety and accessibility enhancements. The City aims to address these issues by implementing improvements that ensure the roundabout accommodates modern traffic demands and adheres to current safety and design standards. The scope of the project includes the following key tasks: 1. Evaluation of the Existing Roundabout: o Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current roundabout configuration, including traffic flow, safety concerns, and infrastructure condition. o Identify deficiencies and areas of improvement for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. 2. Proposed Safety and Accessibility Improvements: o Develop and present up to three conceptual designs for improvements. Concepts should include safety measures such as bike ramps, updated curb ramps compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, revised striping, and enhancements to pedestrian and cyclist facilities. o Evaluate the center island design and propose modifications, including the addition of a truck apron for large vehicle accommodation. 3. Final Design and PS&E Preparation: o Based on City feedback, refine the selected concept into a detailed design. o Prepare a complete PS&E package for the approved concept, including construction plans, specifications, and an engineer’s estimate.
