The McClure building, built around 1906-1908, on the corner of West Main St. and St. Clair St. in Frankfort, KY, was constructed with the basement connecting with the subsurface space beneath the City sidewalk. The portion adjacent to West Main Street served as a coal chute and utility tunnel. The beams and columns supporting the sidewalk have experienced decades of deterioration as a result of water infiltration and other causes. The scope of this project is to provide support to the new sidewalk by constructing a concrete block wall and backfilling the subsurface space with a cellular concrete. A portion of the area will not be filled, and the structure will be repaired as shown in the bid documents. Along with this work, the sidewalk will be regraded where shown with a positive grade away from the building all the way to the curb line. Some areas of the sidewalk and curb will need to be fully replaced where unwanted integral elements need to be demolished.
