1. Bid Item #1 – Mobilization and demobilization This lump sum cost for this item should include all work necessary to mobilize equipment, workers, and materials needed to complete the work for this project, including insurance and the performance bond. 2. Bid Item #2 -5– Installation of Tile This will be paid out on a per foot basis for each size of tile installed as shown on the plans. The surrounding gravel as shown on the details on the plan sheets should be included as part of the unit bid price. The tile and gravel planned for use on the site shall be approved by the engineer prior to delivery to the site. 3. Bid Item #6-10 – Elbow, Wye and Reducer This will be paid out on a lump sum basis for each fitting installed as shown on the plans. Gravel shall be placed around the fittings as shown on the plans. 4. Bid Item #11 – New to Old Tile Connections This will be paid out on a lump sum basis connection as shown on the plans. The engineer shall observe these connections before backfilling. 5. Bid Item #12 – Crush and Bury Old Tile After the new tile is in place, the old tile shall be crushed and buried at its current location, except for the portion that extends under the dike. This portion of the tile shall either be hauled off the site or buried on site at an approved location. 6. Bid Item #13 – Dike Restoration The work described below shall be paid out on a lump sum basis. A portion of the new tile must extend under the dike to connect to the existing tile main. Gravel shall not be used as backfill around the tile with in the footprint of the dike. All topsoil shall be removed and placed to the side to be replaced on top of the compacted fill. The excavated soil material shall be used to backfill the tile and shall be carefully placed in lifts of less than 6 inches in thickness and compacted using hand-operated equipment, such as a jumping jack. Extra care shall be exercised with the haunches. The backfillshall be placed and compacted to match the adjacent geometry of the dike to within 6 inches of the surface. No rocks with a diameter of 2-inches or more shall be used as backfill immediately against the tile. The removed and set aside topsoil shall be replaced over the surface, but not compacted. The disturbed area shall be raked as needed for seed bed preparation and then seeded with brome grass.
