The property is believed to be built in 1976 and was thought to be owned by Community College District No. 518 n/k/a Carl Sandburg College. The State of Illinois, Department of Agriculture leased the space during this time and continued the lease after the property was believed to be sold to Galesburg Laboratory LP in 1988. The State of Illinois, Department of Agriculture purchased the property in 2016. The property is located on the south side of South Lake Storey Road east of Tom L. Wilson Boulevard and west of Log City Trail in the City of Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois. The first floor is comprised of several testing laboratories along with bathrooms, employee lounge, mail room, receiving area administrative offices. The first floor is also the location of a two-story, 1,500 SF Necropsy Room which houses a one-ton indoor/outdoor livestock crane, carcass incinerator, two-story carcass refrigerator, animal pens, and Agri-Lyzer. The total floor area of the first level is 18,000 SF. The second floor is 4,500 SF and is comprised of meeting rooms, administration offices, classrooms and another set of bathrooms. The lower level is partially below grade and also measures 18,000 SF. The lower-level space is mostly open and unfinished and includes a 10-foot grade level drive-in door.
