Jefferson County Commission desires to establish a contract for the purchase of Glass Beads for our Roads and Transportation Department for various road pavement projects. The glass beads shall be manufactured from commercial grade soda lime glass cullet from North American sources containing less than 0.1 weight percent crystalline silica. The glass beads shall meet all latest editions of Federal/State Regulations given in AASHTO M 247 latest edition of the USDOT “Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects:”. Glass must be non-flotation, transparent, clean, smooth, colorless glass spheres free from all imperfections including firm, scratches, pits, clusters, opaqueness or excessive air bubbles. At least 75% of the beads shall be “round” as designated by ASTM-D-1155. Glass beads shall have a minimum refractive index of 1.5. The beads are to be dual coated with moisture resistance and adherence coatings. The beads shall be sealed and packaged in moisture proof rigid bulk container weighing twenty-four thousand (2400) pounds each. Each container shall be marked with the name and address of the manufacturer, shipping point, trademark or name, description of the contents, weight, lot number, and date of manufacture.
