Through a combination of mastication equipment and hand felling (lop and scatter), the contractor shall produce a treatment area that is a mixture of meandering ribbon meadows (3-5 acres large) with thinned out areas adjacent to meadows (1 to 5 acres large). For pinyon pine (PIED, Pinus edulis) and junipers (Juniperus spp.), the diameter class refers to the diameter of root collar (DRC) which is defined as the diameter measured at the root collar or at the natural ground line, whichever is higher. For all other tree species, the diameter class refers to the diameter at breast height (DBH) which is measured at 4.5’ on the tree's trunk on the uphill side of the slope. The Contractor shall work upslope and is required to complete a unit and have it signed off before beginning on another unit. Each unit is flagged in white flagging, however, the Contractor shall have electronic devices in each machine with a GPS map reading software like Avenza for understanding unit and project boundaries.
