The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is seeking a Professional Services Consultant (PSC) team for the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory Addition - IBRL 2.0 project. This project will begin with the schematic design and design development phases to better define the scope, schedule, and cost. Following the schematic design phase, the project will seek a design approval from the Board of Trustees. With the University of Illinois Board of Trustees' approval, it is also the University’s intent to utilize the same PSC for the remainder of the project for construction documents, bid & award, construction administration, and warranty phases. This project shall consist of an expansion onto the existing IBRL facility toward the empty lot to the East to continue the programmatic growth. A similar architectural design style to the existing IBRL is imagined with minor improvements learned from the past 5 years of operation and has been attached in the appendices in program statement which may act as a basis for the floor plan design. The total new sq. ft. is expected to be 37,249 with 17,000 as research, 13,000 as office/conference/classroom, and the remainder as circulation and infrastructure, with a net to gross efficiency of 72%. The focus of the functional design for IBRL is the process bay area, where research will be conducted on the undiscovered nature of the research regimen by reflecting on the multiple unit operations that can be combined to create functional new bioprocesses. The process bay design allows for a number of independent unit operations to be flexibly connected to form a pilot process for research and development related to new and better bioprocesses to convert a broad variety of biomass raw materials into higher value-added products such as food, fuels, polymers, agrochemicals, fibers, and industrial feedstocks.
