DEC seeks grant applications for the following: 1. Construction of a Material Recycling Facility (MRF) capable of accepting and sorting “mandated recyclable[s]” including aluminum and steel cans, aluminum foil and aluminum pie plates, glass bottles and jars from foods and beverages, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles or jugs, high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic bottles and jugs, corrugated cardboard, white and colored paper, newspaper, magazines, catalogues, paper mail and envelopes, boxboard, and paper bags. 2. Eligibility: To be eligible for this grant: a. The applicant must be a solid waste management entity or municipality. b. The proposed MRF facility must be able to serve at least 40% of the state, using equipment and staff to sort and process mandated recyclables for recycling markets. c. The proposed MRF facility must be owned by the applying solid waste management entity or municipality, but facility operations may be subcontracted to third parties. d. The proposed MRF facility must be eligible to meet the DEC Solid Waste Facility certification requirements in the Solid Waste Management Rules
