The purpose of this project is to remove and replace fire hydrants and hydrant valves at various locations throughout the water distribution system which have become inoperable, nonexistent or have been identified by Chatham County Public Utilities (CCPU), hereinafter referred to as Owner, as being in need of replacement. Contractor shall become familiar with the hydrant locations and all information provided for them. Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials and equipment necessary to complete each hydrant. The specific Scope of Work for a particular location may vary given the actual conditions observed. The Contractor shall perform work as described herein to formulate a Work Plan. B. New Hydrants and/or Hydrant Valves a. Provide traffic control in accordance with NCDOT Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices b. Locate and mark all utilities in the vicinity of the proposed work c. Locate each hydrant and valve or position where hydrant is or is supposed to be situated d. Remove concrete sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter and/or asphalt as needed e. Uncover hydrant valve as necessary to access valve box and valve f. Remove soil, debris and water from valve box g. Test operation of valve and replace if valve is inoperable h. Replace valve box or adjust valve box to final grade as required i. Remove existing hydrants, install new hydrants at the locations listed herein j. Replace inoperable valves k. Acceptance testing l. Perform site restoration, asphalt and concrete repair, compaction, final grading, seeding and mulching, etc. as necessary
