The RTD Commuter Rail Transit (CRT) Division requires the services of a railroad contractor that can perform surfacing work on the N Line rail bed to correct geometry defects that develop over time. This work is scheduled to be completed twice annually starting in 2025 through 2027. Once in the spring either late April or early May and once in the fall during October or early November. The entire N Line alignment will be surfaced as the alignment tends to settle in spots and develop geometry defects. These defects, if not corrected, could lead to speed restrictions or violation findings from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The CRT Division does not have the necessary equipment to perform this work. Due to the weight of the vehicles being used on the N Line, as well as the precipitation in both the winter and the spring, surface defects are expected to form. The tamping equipment should be able to effectively plot, line, and lift railroad as necessary. The regulator should be able to effectively broom and dress the ballast line of the railroad. The N Line is approximately 15 miles long. All tracks will need to be resurfaced. The track is constructed with concrete ties and #115 rail. There are 14 switches throughout the alignment that vary in size between #9, #15, and #20. These switches are also constructed with concrete ties and will need to be resurfaced. Due to the overhead catenary system, the track will need to be skim lifted and lined throughout the alignment. RTD will provide ballast for cribs if necessary. RTD personnel will clean any flangeways and switch points as needed. Contractor will provide fuel for equipment. All work will be done during overnight maintenance windows, primarily Sunday – Thursday. Work on occasion may need to be done on Friday and Saturday nights. Maintenance windows range in length from 4-8 hours.
